His story is amazing. His dad was a contract builder responsible for the tower in Pisa. As a boy, wanting to impress his dad but despairing of ever being able to, he was taken on a business trip to Persia (Iran). He was left alone with the daughter of a Persian business man, and the two ten year olds did what many do when left alone and unsupervised .. they challenged each other to Math games. Fibonacci was good, but she was better. She used Arabic/Hindu numbers while he used Roman numbers. Later in life, he would write of the challenge and introduce Hindu/Arabic numbers to Europe. Then, she introduced the rabbit problem ..
Because such children will naturally consider rabbits. He had poured his heart to her about how he would impress his dad. She suggested he breed rabbits for their fur coats. This introduced the famous sequence which bears his name.
